PinaSmile (Philippines Smiles!)

Philippines is known for being a disaster-prone country mainly because it is located near the Pacific Ring of Fire and lies along the West Basin. As eloquently stated to a research, 20-21 typhoons enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility every year and the country has numerous active volcanoes which Filipino’s encounter.

November 2013, super typhoon Yolanda with the international name, Haiyan hits the country specifically Samar, Leyte that caused the lost and damage of some families in their properties, houses and typhoon left them devastated. Despite of those calamities, Filipinos still manage to smile. It’s really more fun in the Philippines! Because we always show our sweet smiles even though we are facing a lot of challenges. Maybe we are not calamity-proof but our smiles cannot be changed by problems. Filipinos think that we are greater than problems, we always think in the bright side, like we are coated by positivity. Super typhoon Haiyan didn’t leave a thing but the ‘Bayanihan’ is still there. Our fellow Filipino still chose to help their fellowmen even they were both affected by the typhoon. Filipinos show that you don’t need to live in a luxury life to help, even the poorest person can help- even he don’t possess greatest things.

It is truly that we can’t avoid the natural disasters, but we can lessen its casualties and one way to cope up is to smile. Don’t let the problem overcome you, you are the one who need to overcome them.
